Do you have a favorite place for reading? a favorite room? a favorite time or position?
I wish I had a big comfy chair and a fireplace and a cat. But I don't. So then, my favorite place is in bed, especially on a cold rainy night ... with lots of pillows and quilts and maybe a cup of tea.
How about a companion? Do you like to read with some one else? a friend? a family member? Sometimes I like to read in the library with lots of other people.

I tend to do most of my reading in bed. I don't quite have the right kind of chair for my reading. And given our limited space I am going to have to wait until our next place (hopefully next year) to get the reading chair of my dreams.
Hi Thomas
nice to meet you ... I've never known anyone from Washington DC before ... your reading list is impressive indeed ... 92 so far this year ... good heavens, that's almost 10 per month
you've read some of my favorite authors: Shirley Jackson, May Sarton, Margaret Laurence, Kurt Vonnegut, Doris Lessing, Nevil Shute, Herman Hesse; and I'm going to check some of these out at the library for re-reading. I tend not to keep books or buy books - the library is my bookshelf - they have lots more room than I do
I want a really nice reading chair... but I have to settle for my bed at the moment. One day...
My problem just now is lighting. I don't have a chair and a light together. And I'm awfully particular - I want a parchment shade for that lovely ambience. And it should be a floor lamp and it should be right next to my chair. I must go looking. Parchment shades are not easy to come by even in antique stores. Hey, Janice, did I know that you liked Nevil S?? Doesn't surprise me, though. :<)
I am going to break up the bed-reader party: I like to read on the couch snuggled into a pillow in the corner where the arm meets the back. That way my legs can be propped up but there's no uncomfortable wall behind me- just a lamp.
